Times of war

  During times of war many drastic measures have to be taken. I believe that even though war may call for drastic measures you should not be bombing innocent citizens. I don't think it is fair that innocent people who may not even be involved in the war have to die. The violence of the war should stay between the people fighting in the war, there is no reason to involve other people in it. Germany would attack innocent people as a scare tactic, I don't think this was necessary for them to do this. I feel that if you are not part of the war you should not have to be injured.

 In the Simpson's episode about prohibition they try to portray prohibition in the 1920's. There were several accuracies in the episode such as "speak easy", the mafia selling alcohol illegally, the police not enforcing prohibition, and bootlegging. The scenes that were inaccurate were that Prohibition was now being reinforced because a child got drunk in the streets. Also that the punishment of drinking was being catapulted, and that all the beer from the town was buried. Yes, I did enjoy the episode; it helped me to understand Prohibition a little better and did it in a funny way. The elements of 1920's life that were portrayed well were that people would drink alcohol illegally in secret bars, also people would try to make their own alcohol.

 A scene that I would rewrite would be the scene in the beginning of the episode when Bart accidental got drunk on St.Patrick's day and that led to prohibition being enforced. To make it more historically accurate I would show people drinking a lot and having that lead them to do stupid things. Such as to be violent, do illegal things activities or support prostitution. This would show a more accurate reason for Prohibition rather than a comical made up one.

US civil librities

The United States has worked hard over the last 100 years to make America what it is today. As citizens we have many civil rights and liberties, and I do not think that during times of war any of these should be taken away. News papers should have the right to print what is actually going on with the war. Also peoplel should always be free to state what they want without being worried of going to jail for it. If we were to loose these during times of war it would no longer be a free country. America should always be free no matter what the circumstances are.

 One issue in the United States that is in need of progressive reform would be the coast of colleges. Many private colleges and universities coast over $20,000 a year. Very few people in the United States can afford that with out loans or financial aid. If colleges could lower the coast of schools per year more students would apply, therefore they could still make as much money as before. Students that cannot afford a school will not apply there because of the coast, so if the coast was lower more students would apply.

Spain launches attack on the U.S.S Maine, killing hundreds of innocent people. While Maine was docked in the Havana harbor Spain unexpectedly dropped a bomb on it. The United Sates were not prepared for this attack, and had to chance to fight back. They are now going to declare war with Spain due to this brutal attack.
